Wildlife in Shimla is an added attraction among the visitors to the hill station. Due to its diverse topography and climate, Shimla has been gifted with various forms of vegetation and wildlife. Shimla's cool climate along with the natural beauty of woods has made it the most desirable place for living among both the human beings and the animals. Shimla Wildlife comprises of its neighboring regions too. Some of the wildlife sanctuaries along with the wildlife species available there are as follows
Chail Sanctuary
This place is forty five km away from Shimla. But this land of Deodar and Oak forests are a home to Sambar, Goral and Cheer Pheasants. You can also check out the Barking deer and Kalijin which are mostly out of their hubs at dawn and dusk.
Churdhar Sanctuary
Located in the Solan valley of Shimla district, this is famous for the Musk Deer and Monal. One of the latest sanctuaries it is also house to Black bear, common Langur and Leopards.
Nature Park, Kufri
This place is sixteen km away from Shimla and is a must for those who
visit Shimla. Here you can find various kinds of Hangal, Barking Deer, Musk Deer, Brown Bear and some uncommon species of Monal.
Majathal Sanctuary
This is a place located on a very rough land and is not connected by road. You have to travel about ten kms. from Kararghat (Shimla-Bilaspur-Highway) to Kashlog and then on your foot. The main attractions here are the Cheer Pheasants and the Gorals.
